Project Status: Ready for implementation - seeking funding
Target: HIV positive children / children orphaned by AIDS
Area: Kumasi
LIFOC seeks to provide Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART), nutritional supplements, extra food to meet the children’s special dietary requirements, and support for their educational needs. Food rations are provided through collaboration with another NGO, the Opportunities Industrialisation Centres International (OICI).
The children in this project receive monthly home visits and their health, nutrition and educational progress is monitored. Home visits allow LIFOC to gain first-hand information about the OVCs they support, and provide a direct link with the children and their care-givers.
Goals:
- Effectively reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS in communities
- Work towards removing the stigma associated with children living with HIV
Objectives that each child:
- receives appropriate nutrition and proper health care
- is regularly provided with anti retroviral therapy
- obtains a proper education
- is integrated into their families, neighborhood and society
- has a caregiver who is able to feed and house the child.
Beneficiaries:
Light for Children has identified 35 HIV positive/ Children orphaned by AIDS in the Kumasi Area. The NGO’s goal for 2008 is to care for and fund 10 of these children.
