After a hectic summer, September was a quiet month for Light for Children.

Suzanne Sandquist of Sweden sent the sum of $2000 for two girls that she sponsors. Both these girls are now going to senior high school, so the money will be used to pay school fees as well as for medical and other expenses.

September also saw the arrival of six volunteers from Sweden and Denmark. Three of these were working at Mampong Babies Home, and one worked on Preventive Child Sexual Abuse workshops with Light for Children’s Emmanuel Kwarteng.

Two Danish volunteers, Camilla Lykke Rasmussen and Freja Hou Thode, stayed in Kumasi and volunteered at St Michael’s Hospital in Pramso.

Camilla and Freja also visited schools to teach children about dental hygiene, and donated pediatric toothbrushes to the children.

Activities continued on the SWAA/FHC Female Condom Project with an outreach event at Anloga Market in Kumasi. As well as promoting and distributing female condoms, volunteers took the opportunity to educate the market traders about an upcoming polio vaccination program and the best ways to prevent cholera. In total, volunteers were able to sell 1800 condom samples in September.
