In March, Light for Children’s activities focused on the Preventive Child Sexual Abuse program. Although fears over the Ebola outbreak have kept many international volunteers away, local interns and volunteers have played an active role in our programs.

The Department of Social Work at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has an ongoing partnership with Light for Children, placing student interns with our organization to work on both the Preventive Child Sexual Abuse program and to teach at the Education Center. In March, Bridget Adjoa Dadzie, John Tetteh and Jacqueline Bosompen, all KNUST students, travelled to Nsuta in order to conduct sexual abuse awareness workshops in schools in the Mampong and Nsuta area.

Also in March, Elin Jarnehäll of Sweden volunteered with Light for Children. Together with KNUST interns Seth Mensah and Torto Oponi, and Emmanuel Kwarteng of Light for Children, she also conducted sexual abuse awareness workshops in Ashanti region schools.

Three additional interns from KNUST’s Social Work department taught Information and Computer Technology at Light for Children’s Education Center in Atonsu, Kumasi.
