Light for Children Ghana

December 2016 - March 2017 Activity Report

In January of 2017 Mike Owusu travelled to Accra to attend a meeting of the Ghana Tax Justice Coalition. This coalition works at the local and national level to help deliver tax justice. Because attempts to educate the public about Ghana’s new taxes have not been effective, the coalition will publish and broadcast education materials in the six most widely-spoken Ghanaian languages.

Also in January, an American nurse who was vacationing in Ghana with her daughter paid a working visit to Light for Children. In the US, she works to provide psycho-social support to children who have been sexually abused. She was very impressed with Light for Children’s work with child sexual abuse and plans to volunteer with us in the summer.

Mia Bang Larsen, a medical intern from Sweden, joined Light for Children in January. She worked at the Christ the King Hospital in Kumasi for four weeks in January.

From January to March 2017, Theresa Romer of Denmark volunteered in Nsuta. She taught at Oxford Basic School during this time, and her contribution was greatly appreciated.

Also during this time three other volunteers from Denmark worked at Mampong Babies Home. Katrine, Kristine and Nicole worked hard to help provide quality care to the children in the home.

A big thank you to all of our volunteers and supporters who make this work possible.
